The polls will close in ten minutes for the Irish general election. Unfortunately I am outside my constituency and cannot return as it is exam time (and I also didn’t have a chance to move my vote or do a postal vote). A few people have mentioned that the government scheduled the election at this time because they knew students would be away from home doing exams now, and students are generally thought to be for change (some people also comment that Sinn Fein has a large student support these days due to their socialist policies). At least we’re better off than in the UK, where because of first-past-the-post, the Lib Dem voting students at home have almost no effect nationally.

It will be interesting to see how it goes anyway. We might be electing the people that will see this country’s economy collapse, even though none of them acknowledge that it will.

Arundhati Roy ‘We’ documentary

with one comment

Please watch this video if you can, it’s a documentary abour Arundhati Roy’s words, someone I’ve admired for a long time and would align myself closely to her values and humanity. It’s got a great soundtrack too. (Download it to watch full-screen: link)

Intelligent podcasts

Anyone who knows me knows I have an interest in American politics. For quite a while now, I’ve been feeding that interest with The Daily Show and The Colbert report clips on the net, which are not only informing, but are hilarious to boot. Well, I’ve now started to pass my time when walking by listening to webcasts from UC Berkeley. I’ve begun by listening to polysci 179. They have excellent guest speakers every week, who are in good positions to talk about the American political sphere. It is even quite amusing at times.

It’s not a big truck, it’s a series of tubes

without comments

What am I talking about?

The internet no less! Who would’ve thought, that it’s not a big truck. What genius of human civilization? Senator Ted Stevens that’s who.

You have GOT to listen to this MP3 of him talking to the Senate Commerce committee.

It’s more than suspicious how much he seems to care for ‘the consumer’, even though this isn’t in the consumers interest. You decide who’s agenda he’s trying to forward. I mean, the man doesn’t have a clue, yet he seems to care an awful lot *SIGH*

I just the other day got, an internet was sent by my staff at 10 o’clock in the morning on Friday and I just got it yesterday. Why?

I wish someone would send me an internet once in a while…

Those bad content providers, streaming 10 or 12 movies over the internet, or even worse, WHOLE BOOKS!
